EcoPsychotherapy
Dynamic Nature, Our Human Predicament & the Therapy Engagement
Take time and make space with a trained ally to engage your unique experiences, emotions, hardships and stuck points that impact well-being, intimacies, hopes and aspirations.
Perhaps most of us now experience our personal and public worlds in some flux, change or crisis? Environmental and socially familiar experiences and life paths may be giving way to turbulence, unknowns, irritability, anxiety, flattened aspirations or depression. Community relations, intimates, income stability, health, aging, youthful aspirations may be in question.
As our world's biological and cultural resilience destabilizes there is much to reflect upon, emotions to explore, conflicts to unpack, adaptations to consider. EcoPsychotherapy offers this vital, supportive professional resource and purpose to seek your way in what may seem a raging flood.
About Dr. McCutchen:
I hold an MA (1986) and Ph.D. (1990) in Clinical Psychology, earned from The California School of Professional Psychology in Berkeley/Alameda. After training in New York City and San Francisco, I joined a community psychotherapy practice in Western Massachusetts to form the Shelburne Falls Clinical Group as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, where I was active for 17 years. I also owned and operated a successful agroforestry farm with my partner for over 20 years.
In 2008 I left private practice, allowing my Massachusetts Clinical Psychology license to expire in good standing, to respond to escalating climate and biocultural crises, drawing upon my skills and assets as cross-cultural psychologist, human ecologist, activist and farmer. With my partner Janis, we established the nonprofit organization, Island Reach Foundation. We are now located off-grid in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and remain active with our nonprofit work as well as with this new entity.
I can offer online EcoPsychotherapy services to clients working through solastalgia (emotional or existential distress caused by environmental change) trauma, anxiety, grief and adaptation to the sweeping changes of our times.
Our work together can explore a range of theoretical modalities as best suits your situation.
EcoPsychotherapy is an eclectic field of practice emerging in our changing world. In Nova Scotia, EcoPsychotherapy is not regulated. My practice adheres to the codes of best practice, confidentiality and ethics common across psychotherapy models.
The suggested fee is $80 per session. In certain circumstances, this rate can be negotiated. Payment can be made at the session time through e-transfer.
